Larnaca
Both apartments are situated in peaceful villages within a 10 minute drive of Larnaca (see individual apartment pages for details).
Larnaca is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. Today it is a bustling town which manages to retain a good deal of historic charm. Its many places to visit include the famous Lazarus church, the Turkish fort and the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke. Or you could explore the historic quarter with its narrow streets and charming buildings.
One of Larnaca's
most distinctive features is its palm-lined waterfront promenade, bordered by
tavernas and restaurants to suit all ages, tastes and budgets. At the end of the
promenade you will find the picturesque marina. Larnaca is a relaxed place, well
loved for its easy-going attitude, safe environment and friendly people.
If you enjoy
shopping then Larnaca is the place to be, with a range of shops to rival many
European cities. From fashionable boutiques and large chain stores to small
Cypriot souvenir shops it combines the modern with the traditional. Situated
off
the main shopping streets you will find smaller side streets and tree-shaded
courtyards, perfect for a enjoying a cool drink and watching the world go by.
The blue-flag beaches in Larnaca have soft, gently-shelving sand allowing children to play safely in the shallow water. The main beaches have lifeguards and are well served with sun-beds, umbrellas, toilet facilities, cafes and coffee shops. There are also three waterparks within an hours drive. Other activities include horse riding, karting, bowling, Cineplex, camel park, cycle and hiking trails and numerous water sports.
Warm seas and
clear water ensure that diving is a popular pastime in Cyprus. The lack of tides
and currents mean that both beginners and more experienced divers can enjoy the
experience. There are a number of dive sites in the area, the most outstanding
being the wreck of the massive ferry the Zenobia, near Larnaca, reported to be
the best dive site in the Mediterranean and in the top 10 wreck sites in the
world. During the summer months, water temperatures average 25C declining to 15C
in the Winter.
Skiing is available
in the Troodos mountains during January and February. Equipment can be hired
easily and is reasonably priced. Sun-bathe by the pool in the
morning,
then take off to enjoy an afternoon of skiing, before returning to Larnaca for
an evening meal!
To the west of the town of Larnaca lies the Salt Lake, the haunt of migrant flamingos from December to March. In the winter it fills with water and attracts large numbers of migrating birds, including the flamingos, which form a blaze of pink as they gather in the centre of the lake.
With easy access to the coastal highways and motorway, both apartments are ideally situated for a relaxing and fun base and for exploring this fabulous island.
