Our apartment is located on the edge of Pyla village; about 2 miles from the sea, 6 miles from Larnaca town and 7 miles from Larnaca international airport. It takes just a few minutes to stroll into the traditional village, where you will find numerous shops, cafes, tavernas and restaurants. We strongly recommend that guests hire a car during their stay in order to make the most of the surrounding area.
The award winning, sandy Pyla beach (pictured above) is 2 miles away. Pyla front offers a huge selection of restaurants and tavernas, ranging from international cuisine to traditional Cypriot meze.
A ten minute drive leads to Larnaca, one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. Today it is a bustling town which manages to retain a good deal of historic charm. Its many places to visit include the famous Lazarus church, the Turkish fort, the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke and a number of wonderful museums. Or you could explore the historic quarter with its narrow streets and charming buildings.
One of Larnaca's most distinctive features is its palm-lined waterfront promenade, bordered by tavernas and restaurants to suit all ages, tastes and budgets. At the end of the promenade you will find the picturesque marina. Larnaca is a relaxed place, well loved for its easy-going attitude, safe environment and friendly people.
If you enjoy shopping then Larnaca is the place to be, with a range of shops to rival many European cities. From fashionable boutiques and large chain stores to small Cypriot souvenir shops it combines the modern with the traditional. Situated off the main shopping streets you will find smaller side streets and tree-shaded courtyards, perfect for a enjoying a cool drink and watching the world go by. Typical Cypriot souvenirs include ceramics, basketry, lace, wood carving, leather, silver and copper products. High quality and designer glasses and sunglasses can be purchased at relatively low prices so bring your prescription.
To the west of the town of Larnaca lies the Salt Lake, the haunt of migrant flamingos from December to March. In the winter it fills with water and attracts large numbers of migrating birds, including the flamingos, which form a blaze of pink as they gather in the centre of the lake.
Families are well catered for in this area. Aside from the swimming pool and the blue-flag beaches, there are three waterparks within an hours drive. Other activities include horse riding, karting, bowling, Cineplex, camel park, cycle and hiking trails and numerous water sports.
Warm seas and clear water ensure that diving is a popular pastime in Cyprus. The lack of tides and currents mean that both beginners and more experienced divers can enjoy the experience. There are a number of dive sites in the area, the most outstanding being the wreck of the massive ferry the Zenobia, near Larnaca, reported to be the best dive site in the Mediterranean and in the top 10 wreck sites in the world. During the summer months, water temperatures average 25C declining to 15C in the Winter.
Pyla is situated
close to the motorway network and is perfectly placed for exploring the rest of
the island. A short drive through Pyla leads to the border to the north of the
island, which makes an interesting day trip (remember to take your passport).
